Fair Trade in Havant Borough
[Start Menu]

Who are we?

Havant Borough Fairtrade Forum has been meeting since 2004 with the aim of getting Fairtrade products better known.

We also aimed to make Havant a Fairtrade Borough and now we have succeeded. On 23rd February we will be handing over the Fairtrade Borough Certificate to the Mayor. There is still lots to do, so why not join us!

We run stalls, like here at the Emsworth Food Festival, do talks, persuade people to try Fairtrade products, produce lists of outlets

This was a Fairtrade food tasting last year.

 What is Fairtrade?

The people who produce crops like tea, coffee, cocoa and fruit are among the poorest people in the world and often exploited. Fairtrade aims to change that. The Fairtrade mark on a product guarantees that the producer has been paid a fair price plus a small extra premium for projects in the community. The mark is an independent consumer label which shows that international standards have been reached. Simply by making a choice to buy Fairtrade products you can make a real difference to the lives of people across the world. Fairtrade is not charity or aid, it is simply about empowering communities to buid their own successful futures.

There are now well over 2,500 different products ranging from fruit and nuts to spices and cotton products. A wide and increasing range of Fairtrade goods are available in a growing number of retail outlets in the borough.
